Dream Team
If you could start a new excavation company and money to purchase equipment wasn't an issue.
What type of work would you go into? Where in the country? What machines would you purchase? This is the only catch you are limited to 5 machines in the initial investment. What trucks would you buy? You are limited to 5. How would you design your shop? and how would you outfit it?

Re: Dream Team
Wow..lets see...The place?? Minnesota just because I have 16 years experience up there so I know the area. Second because it is mostly sand and third reguarding area, I know the largest trucking company owners personally. (takes care of the truck issues). The work???? Highway heavy construction, Why?? There is tons of it..(3 seasons up there...Spring, Winter, and construction season. The equipment......5 pieces isn't much..but I'll give it a whirl. I'll need a 100,000lbs excavator, a Cat D6 widepad, a Cat D5 6-way blade, a JD710, and a Cat 950 loader. Trucks.....Just gimme 5 Sterling tandems. As far as a shop....It would be big....Say 6 service bays that were at least 70-80 ft long, a wash bay that was the same lenght but double in width. and at least two welding bays. all ceiling would have to be very high to house the track cranes which would have the capability of lifting a dozer. and be high enough so that a track hoe could raise up.....There would also have to be a track crane in the welding bay as well. Speaking of course from experience in a shop. Let me know if I'm off the mark with anything or am missing a key piece you think.....

Re: Dream Team
I'm content with what I'm doing now. No need to dream about owning all that iron, if the money for the equipment wasn't an option, I'd take it and retire somewhere north, maybe Canaan
. The way I figure I have 10 - 15 more years to work Lord willing.

Re: Dream Team
Jazak
I copied your post and started looking up the equipment to buy. I'll probably need a little more but it's start. The equipment may not be a problem but I am going to need someone to run it. Not to many talented operators in Costa Rica. The dirtman knows. |
