Demolishing A House

I have a 600 sq ft wood house to tear down, & I need to figure how many yards of material I gonna have. Is there any way to come up with a number other than guessing?

87 divided by 27 x .6475 - 26 x your 600 sq ft.

Re: Demolishing A House

Work in reverse..........have an architect draw up some plans, get take offs for all the materials, calculate the volumes of the lumber pack, sheetrock, foundation, roofing, carpet, etc. That will give you the figure you are looking for(sarcasm of course)............or you can do like the rest of us and give it your best guess based on experience and then pad it a little depending on how you feel overall. Of course there is always the formula that Day gave you......I am sure that is the equation that the success of his business is built on so it should be solid

I think it depends on how many cookies you spin on top of the pile....
but you should be safe with Day's formula.. (I can't believe he'd share that, ya know I could use it to bid against him)

Re: Demolishing A House

When doing demos, I figure by the ton for my containers.

L x W x 100 divided by 2,000 = tonage

If it is a 2 story home.. L x W X 100 x 1.5 divided by 2,000 = tonage

If it is a newer home, substitue 80 for 100 since construction materials for newer homes are lighter.

A 40 yd container, I avg about 11 ton. Your last 1 or 2 containers will be heavier since you will be scratching the bottom and will be getting dirt mixed in.

BTW, with my forumula, you will come in a little heavy on the tonage.
