Re: A Day In The Shop

day,

Nice shop!

What, did it take most of the day to pose the machines to get their good side?

We have compounded and waxed machines before, Not in the last few years but it does make the paint last longer.

What year and how many hours on your 690? I am considering a JD for a second machine. It seems hard to find a machine for 50K.

Re: A Day In The Shop

that 690 is for sale right now. but freight to get it to you wouldn't make it worth it. it's got 6700 or so hours on it, great machine, hoist cyls seeping a bit, typical wear/tear for a machine it's age. that 690 is a 94 model. i've got a VERY good friend my age who has been a JD mechanic for 30+ yrs....he claims the 690s are a much better machine than the 200 deeres. i bought that hyundai on price, so far "knock on wood" no regrets. the 690 will outhorse the hyndai. it's been a wonderful machine. our shop is only 42 x 60, so we have to park them so we can get the loader in at nite in case we have to plow snow.

How much are you asking for the JD? You have extra hydraulics on that machine?

Re: A Day In The Shop

we are "inches" away from a deal on another hyundai. also looking at a 215 new holland. i've got to the point i'm not really worried anymore about paint and decals, i want a kawasaki pump, the 5.9 cummins is nice. looks to me as though one company is making the majority of the undercarriages, and parts availability. and with the hyundai, or new holland, both are readily available in my area

we're asking 42k for the 690 as is.. don't ask me about undercarriage, in all my life in construction, i have no way to gauge it, other than my mechanic friend told me a yr. ago it was over 70%. the hoist cyls "could" need repacking, depends on how much seep you want showing on your machine, it by NO means is pouring out of the cyls....we have hydraulics down to the stick, BUT, for a vibratory plate, the return line vents back into the hyd. tank at atmospheric pressure. could be changed back, but had to do that to keep from blowing seals out of the hyd. motors on the vibratory plate. it has 6700 hrs, uses about 1-2 qts. oil in our 150-200 hr oil change intervals. new turbo installed about 300 hrs or so ago

We are in the shop too doing repairs to our artic haul truck. Nice pics Day. What are you using for heat ??

As far as waxing the equipment. We just don't have the time to do so. With 12 pieces of equipment and working, there simply is no time. We are lucky that we have time to service them.
