Daily Work Truck

What do you use as your daily work truck?

Do you carry fuel?

What do you carry for job tools?

Mehanics tools?

What would be your perfect setup?

Nick

Sorry this posted twice. It was stalled for about 3-4 minutes when I hit submit and I clicked on it a second time?

Can someone remove one, please.

I drive a 98 Chevy 3500 4 door, diesel, dually. Got the knaack job box in the bed and 2 side rail 8' tool boxes. Had a ladder rack (cheap homo depot kind) when I bought it. Took it off cuz it was junk and I dont do anymore ladder work.

Re: Daily Work Truck

My personal (i.e. Only me and my lead carpenter have keys) work truck is a 05' dodge dually diesel crew cab.

Weather guard box and Kargo Master rack.

We carry a lot of tools on the trucks, all the trucks are very similarly outfitted (this makes it very easy for any employee to find anything they need no matter what vehicle they are around, time is money and I'm slightly OCD about that stuff, old Military habits die hard).

We carry too many tools to name. Not many mechanics tools, just a full socket (usually like a 100 piece set or something like that) and wrench set.

Don't carry fuel, have never seen a real need for it in our line of work.

Sage,
How do you like that truck. I've been eyeing those up and they look bad a$$. I love the sound of that Cummins diesel. Hows the fuel milage? Hows it drive? How would you rate it from 1-10, 10 being highest. Thanks

So far I love it My favorite truck . Tons of torque, I pulled (dragged) a fully loaded 20 yard dumpster with it, Easy. If thats not enough, Install the Gail Banks power system, $2500-3000, and hold on to your marbles when you mash the pedal. I'm gonna do it as soon as I can skim some money off the top with out the Boss knowing.

The computer tells me that I am getting Average 14-16 MPG with it but it has not been really broken in yet, that should improve. I have about 4000 miles on it and need to do about 70-100K for break in.

Drives like a dream, No rear axle hop like I get out of the other heavy duties. I am biased, but I would give it a 9, I have yet to see a 10, I think you would need to custom tailor a truck to my specs for me to give it a 10.

Four wheel drive is great, engages easily.

The other big guy's, FORD & CHEVY have good diesels too, but I have always been a big fan of Cummins, probably because I have seen them go through the toughest real life, real hard trials in the Military, you just can't kill those motors. You would not believe me if I told you the abuse that our armed forces have put them through day after day, and only have the Cummins asking for more day after day.

This is my work truck, it's one of those new hybrids and gets pretty decent gas mileage.

Mike,
Put the bed back in between those cabs and I think you'd have something there.

Here's my rig! Just moved the 35SR to get around the back of the foundation to backfill frost wall ( inside and outside ) With retaining wall poured off of the end of the garage, zero clarence on that side and 6' on the other end of house to lot line. Tight, tight, tight.

Sweet truck, I drive the same thing. What for box is on yours ??? Ours is a Reading and around the damn handles is rusting. We can never find a company that makes boxes that don't rust or the doors shut smoothly.
