Daily Walk Around Check

Do you actually do the daily walk around check that manufacturers recommend? Do you keep a written record? How/ (use a form of some kind) Cat used to have a pocket sized book. Anyone putting it in a computer?

We check motor/hydraulic oil every morning before we fire them up. We don't do a "walk around" but we do take notice of the undercarriage looking for problems.

Nothing formal, but basicly "Ditto".

Re: Daily Walk Around Check

I'm a little OCD about the backhoes I run. I've always figured it's a calling card for the company. I do the normal, check fluids grease. Then every day, clean windows (cant operate if ya can't see!) check air pressure in tires....especially rear ( 1lbs off on the rears will mess up weather your bucket lays flat or not). Wipe down the machine twice a week so it looks good. and wipe down the interior so it looks and maintains that "new" smell. Plus I can't stand dust! If my employer is willing to pay me 1/2 hour to do that, then that is what I do every day, take care of his investment!

So the way you see it, taking care of the equipment is "extra"? I guess you must spend more of your day running the mahine then my guys do if you don't have the time during day to take care of things like greasing and wiping. If so, it's good of you to stay late (or come in early) to do it.

Re: Daily Walk Around Check

Yes, actually, why stop progress during the day to grease??? Doesn't make any sense to shut an operation down. Like now, we start at 6 am, so I start at 5:30. Up in MN when They got me my last new 710, if I nicked the boom up, or smeared grease working next to trees, I'd stay after to clean it up or paint up the nicks....
