Re: Crushed Stone Volume To Tonnage??
That number is a good rough estimate.
Are you asking this so you know how many tons to order? Your best bet is to ask the gravel pit what their weight per volume is, because it can vary depending on the type of rock, etc. Here are the numbers from one of our local pits. Our area pits have a sheet you can request that gives you the numbers, and is usually included with the price sheet. Sandy Loam 1.2 tons to cubic yard Topsoil 1.25t Clean Crushed 1.25 Crushed Rock/Minus 1.35 Pea Gravel 1.4 Drain Rock 1.4 Conc Agg 1.4 Oversize 1.4 Washed Sand 1.4 Mound Sand 1.4 Bank Run 1.5 Pipe Bedding 1.5 Concrete Mix 1.5 |

I usually figure that 1yd weighs 3,000lbs.
With that, I come up with about 10 ton.

The quarry is your best bet for tonage. I did however get a little slide ruler from the vulcan quarry here and it allows you to do length, width, and depth. Also allows a density adjustment. Free and it's handy.

Re: Crushed Stone Volume To Tonnage??
All depends on the type of stone. Need to find the weight of stone from the individual quarry. All quarries will have different weights. And the weights may vary greatly per region.

Re: Crushed Stone Volume To Tonnage??
Multiply loose cubic yard's needed by 1.4 and that will get you pretty close.
