Re: Cell Phone Service

I use Verizon now.

Used to have Nextel, they had the terrible service in my area. An area that should be completly covered Winston Salem, Greensboro of NC. I could set at my desk between WS and Greensboro and not have service. The cities are less than 10 minutes apart.

Even today I can be out and hear a Nextel phone beep no service where some poor soul is trying to talk to a coworker. "Direct Connect" my tail. I can open my phone make a call and not have to wait on the "Indirect Connect".

Re: Cell Phone Service

Cingular here no other company has a third of the coverage they do.

My big beef is the phone itself. Why can't I get a militery spec phone like the Nextel's? All I want is a durable phone that stores a good amount of numbers. Thats it, what else does a phone have to do?

Sprint and Nextel are now together. Nick, take pictures, gps, video games,
and keep you warm. I'll let you know how this military spected phone is next year. Cause the one I had before this one definately couldn't take the head on collision with the excavator.

Re: Cell Phone Service

i agree denick, alltell....at least locally could give a hoot about how well a phone performs, or how good it is in a construction application. it used to be cellularone, now alltell. cellularone's policies are a LOT different than alltells. now, if you buy a 180.00 phone from them, and you're working, you sweat, phone quits working, they call it water damage and make you buy a new one. gimme a break! they can't manufacture a freakin phone that will take somebody sweating? unreal.

Joe, My wife owns two camera's and is very good at taking photographs. My wife has an atlas to everywhere you could possibly want to go. My wife wouldn't let a video game in the house. And my wife keeps me warm. Hey what do I need a phone for????

Jeesh, I'm almost afraid to ask where you keep your cell phone.

Re: Cell Phone Service

Alot of connection problems are due to the phones themselfs. We started out on cingular with a samsung phone. I called a month later and told them to either cut the service or send a new phones. Of course they tried to refuse. I called back later on the cell phone and got the guys name so I could call back in case we got cut off. Sitting in the same spot we got cut off 3 times in 15 minutes. They asked what type of new phone we wanted. I asked what they would recomend. They proceded to say that motorola, lg, and alot of others make everything from TVs to phones and that if you want a good phone buy nokia because thats all they do is make phones. Got the nokias and never had another complaint.

Re: Cell Phone Service

We've been using Nextel's for the last 5 yrs or so. Never really had any problems with them. Some areas you won't get service, that you will have that with any company.

Re: Cell Phone Service

We have used Nextel for many years.

First cell phone in 1988, the kind you have to have installed in the truck from cellular one.

Tried Verizon when they were called Bell Atlantic, the thing would drop my calls while in my driveway, every 3 minutes.

I am pretty pleased with the Nextel service, they just charge too much.

Oh, and the Mil Spec phones are though.

Re: Cell Phone Service

That's funny.

I still have mine actually. It's out in the garage.

Paid extra to have the bag with battery system, probably used the bag 2 or 3 times.

The worst part is we all paid $1,200 to $1,500 for those big bulky things. And know we bitch if we have to pay $200 for the flip that fits in your pocket.

Anyone remember how the phone used to be hooked up to the horn in the truck? Someones horn would start blowing and here comes a carpenter or bricklayer running across the site.

Re: Cell Phone Service

far as phones being durable, the right features and nothing more, you cant beat the good ole nokia 6010, until recently replacing with pda phone, I had that one phone for about 5 years, rained on kicked stepped on, dropped covered in sawdust, left in direct sunlight all day, under piles of wet sandy kites and wetsuits, and that thing just kept on working and good call quality to, I miss my trusty 6010

Funny most new contractors get a Nextel with the PPT so they look like a contactor, I know this from personal experience. I now tend to get phones with all the features....wating for one that will wipe for me.
