Best Websites For Used Equipment

I'm actively hunting for a mini-loader right now. It seems as though there are a gazillion used equipment listing sites that I've found. Some are good. Some stink.

Is there an easy way to cull through all the BS and find one site that is THE site?

Right now, I'm talking to a Ditch Witch dealer who is telling me he has two machines that have under 300 hours on them ('07's), but he wants over $10k.

I don't really want or need a machine that new. I'd take an older one gladly if it was cheaper. I just can't find any machines anywhere....

Greg regardless of the website or who is selling. If you don't know about the machine or how to maintain them. How do you know which one to buy or what condition it is acutally in????

My point being you need help purchasing this machine from someone who knows what they are looking for.

Just an opinion don't get mad

The only ones can think of off hand are,

Ironplanet.com

Rockanddirt.com

But they mostly list the big stuff.
If you are not set on ditch witch, bobcat makes a real small loader MT50/MT52 and you can search used from their site I think. Bobcat.com

You are trying to find a needle.....I looked around for one of these mini loaders a few times and only found the used ones at about 10K.

Good luck, let us know how you do.

I get stuff at municipal auctions, low hours or low miles, well maintained and very reasonably priced.

I personally think they suck.

If it doesn't have a seat and a cab I don't want it. Bobcat and a few others sell a mini loaders with seats and cabs that are 3ft wide those mt,ditch witch etc models have no power for much in my imo

Greg, just after a real quick search, even the older machines are going for around that price level.

http://www.google.com/search?hl=en&q...r+sale&aq=f&oq=

I am sure you did your due diligence, but if new is the same price as old, go newer.

No...I know...believe me. I'd almost feel better buying it from a legitimate dealer channel just because I'll have a support network.

If I buy it from a private party, I get the ol' tailgate warranty.

The problem is that I don't know anyone locally who can hold my hand through this. I have to trust who I'm buying from.

I noticed that a lot of the online used sites are used by dealers to list inventory, but it's a hodge podge at best.

There has got to be someone here online in driving distance that would help you.

Set up about 2,3,4 machines to look at give them 20-300 bucks, a slab on the back and a meal????

My boxer is a stunning piece of machine, with almost everything I could ask for (larger tip capacity is the only missing item).

You're more than welcome to take 'er for a spin if you're in the area... However it's a fairly new model, and you're forced to buy new or almost- plan for 25-30k with trailer & attachments for one of these bigger units.

PS, don't rush the purchase, take your time to research what you need, and test out to see what you like- if at all possible!

Re: Best Websites For Used Equipment

Thanks, Matt.

I know you love your Boxer. I looked into them, but they don't have much (any) representation by me which would make service issues difficult at best.

I am doing lots of online research and it's like anything--you find good and bad totally biased info about every brand and every model. It's like a Ford vs. Chevy pissing match everywhere.

Last week, I was thinking I'd buy a real beater just to get something that would dig a friggin' hole for me. Seeing that there really is no great deals on used mini's, it's becoming apparent that it's probably better to buy a newer machine that has not been beat on.

Just like dump trailers, these suckers tend to hold their value really well and there is not a large used turnover on the machines.

My criteria is simple:

1) I need to auger minimum 15" holes
2) I need to be able to move gravel (for under decks) faster than a wheelbarrow and shovel
3) Weight is an issue since it has to live and transport inside my dinky 6x10 trailer who's GVW is only 3000 pounds
4) I am pretty positive I need/want a tracked model over tires to keep the lawns nice
5) I don't want to spend $30k! $15k tops. Less is even better. I'm not sure I need a monster mini-skid. I can get by with an SK350 or Dingo 420...I think.

You can try out the Prowler version by renting it from Home Depot with the trailer full of attachments. If you like it - you can then buy it there or by contacting the sales department in the link above.

My HD has one and rents the WHOLE Trailer for $160 per day! The problem is that the machine has been out of service for 6 months and in typical HD fashion, no one has a clue about when it will be fixed.

I planned on utilizing it this whole season, but couldn't even use it once.

The only other rental place has an MT52, but they want nearly over $300 per day for it which doesn't not include transport/trailer.

I have a demo setup for Monday with Ditch Witch for an SK350. I just signed a job this AM, so I'm going to use the demo time to drill the footing holes...Why not?

Maybe you should make an offer on that one, maybe 4-5K, it's probably just out of fuel!

Re: Best Websites For Used Equipment

greg you dont realy need a mini you could get a small skid for around the same money, once you start useing the skid you wont ever work with out it .You could drive it into a dump trailer . You should by from a dealer so you could get parts. G&H in newton NJ 9733633370 has a sweet mustang skid 400 hrs 13000 dollers It was small for me . anchor rental on rt 17 had some small mini skids. Bob cat in Totawa NJ is a good dealer they have a nice s150 & s130 and they could sell/rent you a skid and could drop off a drill or a hammer . case in saddle brook is a good dealer and can fix a mustang . I would buy a 5500lb or 6000lb skid I like a BC s130 s150 s175 . I have a Mustang 6300lb skid with 800hr I payed 12000 bucks with tax and extra parts its like new. I bought a small mini EX from ebay The guys name was heavy rig (Jason ) he is a funny guy .He sells lots of the minies . If the unit is not good he will send your money back and pick up the unit . He has to if he wants to keep selling on Ebay lots of people buy things from him .Get a newer unit It big bucks to fix this stuff but they really last.

I realize a full size skid is probably more bang for the buck. But it's just too much for me. First, they destroy the lawn. Second, they won't fit through a gate, third, I have no place to store one!

Thanks for the dealer info, I'll check them out.

I did! The guy looked in the computer and told me the whole shebang (machine, trailer, all attachments) was $9k. I literally took my Amex out and put it on the counter and said "SOLD!".

Then, some other dude walks by and says, "That's just the machine, not the trailer...it's over $30k..."

Wouldn't been a whole heck of a lot nicer than getting a tube of caulk not rung up!!!!

WE have a bobcat 463 which is 48" wide with one bucket and set of tires and when we chance it it is 36" wide. it has a heated cab and works out good we have found all kinds of odd little jobs to do with it and we are a large scale earthmoving contractor. it gets used for everything from grading stone in a building to bucketing asphalt down narrow walkways between buildings. and can plow walkways at our rental properties in the winter. that was 20,000 new

Re: Best Websites For Used Equipment

The good news (sort of) is that I located a decent 7x14 enclosed trailer today that I 99% bought from a guy on CL.

It's a 7k in great shape. It will give me room for the crap in my 6x10 and give me a garage for a mini skid... Even better, is that it has barn doors which I need for everyday access, but the guy I'm buying it from has 2k aluminum ramps he's giving to me to kill two birds with one stone.

The only bad news is that the trailer has loads of vinyl lettering on it, so I see hours of heat gun action in my future...
