Best Excavators

Jobs are getting bigger and I need to sub out a lot of work to a good excavator. Mostly new construction - retaining walls, grading, topsoil. What are some of the questions I should be asking of potential subs to make sure that I get someone reliable, honest, and a good fit? If any of you guys work with landscapers what are the pros and cons of that relationship?

Well, usually most people will get offended if they are asked if they know what they are doing or if they know how to do the work. Your best bet would be to ask around about certain companies to see what previous customers have to say about them.

What you could ask the subs is if they are capable of handling the workload and being able to complete it on time.

Eden,

It depends on what scope of work you need someone to fill. If you just need to hire someone who has a backhoe and dozer or a company that has a good size fleet of equipment.

Rino's right ask around and even ask for references.
You should always look at a companys equipment. It doesn't have to be new or have shiny paint but it shouldn't look like it was hit by a bomb.

What do there jobs look like that you see in progress. A mess of dirt or organized and clean?

We do a good amount of work with landscapers. Most seem to know more about excavating than anybody in the excavating business. Most think that excavators charge way to much. Most ask that you cut costs anywhere you can. Most think quite a bit of themselves. Most ...........................!
