Backhoe & Excavator
Is anyone using both a backhoe and excavator like the new CAT or DEERE that are the same seat & joystick setup?
It seems that it would be a great way to go. Nick |

Re: Backhoe & Excavator
Guess I'm out of the loop, don't know what you're talking about, I'll have to look into it.

Re: Backhoe & Excavator
It was my understanding the 420D and 430D CAT backhoes and the 315 and up excavators should have the same operating environment. And I thought Deere was supposed to now have it in theirs. I'd like to hear about it.

Nick,
Does that mean you sit backwards in the excavators? BTW Have a Very Happy Easter with your Family, Wish Them All Well.

I see what you mean , I just browsed through the Construction Equipment Mag. and saw the inside of the new Cat. Rubber Tire backhoe, really looks impressive, they sure have come along ways even in the last 12 yrs. or so.

Re: Backhoe & Excavator
I have use the "pilot controls" a lot in backhoes. I would say it is THE ONLY way to go. Also I've run every brand that offers them too. The first I ran was a Case 580 super M that had pilot controls. I would say it really makes a Case nice to run, and I HATE Case! Next, the Cat 430. Same deal really, makes it great to run. Deere......Ditto, and of course, it's a deere (not bias or anything am I?) The difference with all of them really is a few little things. 1. Case pilot controls you can adjust more that the others. Meaning, Case, you pull the sticks towards you, plus you can adjust them "in" towards your legs. Makes for almost too comfortable of a day!!!!! Cat you just pull em towards you and same with the Deere. Now, Case also has one more really cool feature.....extendahoe is two buttons on the right stick! No more footwork!!!! and you still have a lot of feel surprisingly! Also a horn on the left stick, nice extra! Cases outrigger controls are little toggles on the left stick as well, too small if you ask me but they have an "express up". With the Case, you can also turn your rear hydraulics on or off with a press of a button. (probably so you don't swing or boom down while your pulling up the windows. All these backhoes have a switch that allows you to switch from excavator style controls to backhoe JD style controls.
