Back to Work?

Next week April starts.

Is everyone back to work?

Has the frost gone out?

Is the ground workable?

Do you have any work?

Nick we worked all winter and have been busier the past few weeks than all heck. No frost left in the ground. The way it looks it's going to be a good year for us. I know other places around the state are deader than a door nail.

Been working for over 2 weeks now. We only took about 6 weeks off for winter. In NJ we never got a good frost. The ground is all dried out now.

Last year I had no work signed at this point. Now, I have more then last year already signed. I think it will be a good year because I work extrememly hard to bring in work.

No frost here, sun is shining and is suppose to be 62 on Tuesday. With all that, we are still not working. I do have 1 sandmound to do and some grading and 2 foundations to do, but they are not out of the bank yet. So, it is back to the shop where we are tinkering.

Never really stopped here, had a couple slow weeks in February due to the weather.

Right now I wish I had 3 of me, so I could get caught up.

We still have snow on the north side of things. Some frost in open areas. We will start back this week. I hope things start to dry soon. It has been 15 to 20 degrees each morning, a little cold.

After a busy winter of snow plowing and removal we started digging last week. Frost varys from 3" to 10". I cant believe how much stuff we have to start the year with. I have 3 foundations to dig this week but not sure if the weather is going to let us. There calling for 5-10" of snow monday. We also have 3 lots to clear so I guess we could do those if we get the snow. Our new skid steer(257 b2 a/c radio loaded) finally came in. I'm still working on the dozer deal.

Still have 1 1/2'-2' of snow on the ground, the frost under that depends on how much exposure the ground had before it snowed.

We've been doing alot of trenching and backhoeing for about a month and a half without any frost. Plenty of work here.

We worked outside all winter though because we have a trailer that has an electric hotwater heater that pumps glycol through it and we cover the hoses with thermal blankets. We can pull a pretty good chunck of frost out of the ground at night. Hoses run approx. 130 degrees F.

We are averaging temps in the 50's during the day and 30's during the night. Equipment ready to go. Have several bids in hoping to get some work soon.

We still have about 12" of snow yet where the sun hits alot, couple ft' in the shade yet. The frost is gone where the ground is bare but seems to vary in depth under the snow, some places 3"-6" and some places it is all ice on top of the ground and my small machine has to fight to get through that no less the frost under that.

Back to work?? Guess one of the benefits (or drawbacks) of workin in a warm climate, especially here in Texas, we can almost always work year round. Wouldn't mind a little down time (man do we need the rain), gotta lotta little projects that need to be done, but oh well, I'm not makin any money sittin around on my you-know-what.

My god man, is Chestertown near the artic circle or what? I thought winter here was terrible long and we've been working for almost two months. I'd shoot myself if we still had snow on the groung in April.

Hey cdub,
You jinxed it and brought the snow. I don't know what you have in KS but this morning we had 1.10 of rain at noon and it started snowing at 2:30 this afternoon and there is about an inch or two already. Nice heavy wet stuff.

The snow has dropped alot in the last few days, alot of sun. It is suppose to rain the next couple days so that should get rid of all the snow except the larger banks. I spoke with a freind of mine today who went to check on his camp in Newcomb NY this past weekend. He and his family snowmobiled in to the camp, he had to slide down the snowbank to get in the front door and shovel steps in the snow to get back out. He also had to shovel down to the door for the outhouse. They still have 4'-5' of snow in Newcomb yet and they are about 30 miles north of me.
