All you are doing is dig the hole on a level, cleared lot?

Re: Anyone Doing Other Stuff? How Did I Do?

if that's a bare lot, and the hole is a "throw and go"........you did REAL well, approx $7.70 a yd. that's more than twice of what we get here. throw and go holes here go for $3.50 i expect to pitch 60-70 yds on the average per hour out of a hole which makes $210-245 an hr for excavator/operator/grade checker.

Re: Anyone Doing Other Stuff? How Did I Do?

Its a 200 size hoe, I bid high I was thinking $3000 or so. But 4900 flowed out of the pen on paper.
Its a rental machine so I figgured it in the price. I own 2 backhoes
and when rarely needed I rent a trackhoe. I figgured 12-13 hours time
I could do it with the backhoe if I want to spend 3 days ill pass.
I am still finding the market prices on excavation. Im a septic guy
this is new to me. I based it on my time 13 hrs worst case. It may get done in 10hrs

average your cycle times x capacity of bucket. in your cycle times, don't forget that you'll lose time to position yourself, for the grade checker, the pee break, the customer showing up and wanting to talk, etc, etc. that'll show you real quick. we dig basements with a 6' wide bucket. i can save 1/3 of my trim passes, over a 4' bucket. hogging dirt out of a hole goes quick, it's the trim passes and grade checking that takes time

Re: Anyone Doing Other Stuff? How Did I Do?

Is this a square hole or does it have jogs in it ?? Is there garage footers, porch footers or frost footers ??

I say that you did a real good job. Well, I wouldn't say that you did a good job on bidding, but you will come out ahead on this one. Another thing to think about is that you can't just throw the dirt out and call it a day. You need to level it out to get cement trucks in. Also, what about a driveway to get cement trucks in?

For a job like this, I would charge around $2,600 to dig and level out for trucks.

on a typical 1/4 acre lot here, 1700 sq ft home, by the time we strip/stockpile topsoil, run the 40' of water/sewer service, dig basement, garage footings, provide and place the pea rock over drain tile, backfill garage and bring up to grade, rough grade driveway and lot....ballparky...is $10k

Re: Anyone Doing Other Stuff? How Did I Do?

rino, speaking of corners....we charge $3.50 a yd to pitch a basement. that gives you "4" corners....these new houses have a zillion in them, in fact, last basement i dug had 13 corners. we charge $50 per corner over 4, it takes about that much time to start, clean one out. works for us!

I have used home tech remodeling and renovation cost estimator for years with good results 1-800-638-8292 there outa Maryland. I remodel homes. It.s fast. I can't say it would be that usefull for your work. Came in handy today though. estimating a 2car garage on a sloped site.
Our peir and grade found on hills.in Ncalif. Get real spendy because of earthquakes. Garage will go around $57,000

Re: Anyone Doing Other Stuff? How Did I Do?

Here in our area which is pretty much all sand we get 1.50 sq. ft. for 8' walls and 1.75 for 9' walls. The last one we did with a 210 kobelco took about 3 1/2 hours to dig. Usually by the time we're done with the extra's they are at 8-10k. There are a couple builders I cut a break seeing as they do 10-15 a year.
