Another Pricing Question

Hey everyone. I have an upcoming job that a neighbour wants done. The job consists of grading and sloping apprx 1 foot of soil away on each side of an 850 ft long driveway. The soil plus a large amount of topsoil the landowner already has in the existing feild is to be moved around his house which currently has no lawn ( it really is a beach, all sand no topsoil) He then wants the soil graded and seed planted. Also along the driveway there is some vines and overgrowth as well as dead trees to be moved. I figured it would take 5 days with my bobcat s185, t190, and landscape rake. ( as well as my labourer) I do not want to overbid this job beacause this neighbour owns 3 camps which all need similar work done plus other odd jobs. I assumed after renting a small dump truck for 2 days to haul away the soil and all my equipment costs(depreciation, fuel, maintenance) landscape rake rental, grass seed, float charges, and labourers pay for 50 hours i am around $6000 (cdn funds) I assumed 5 days for this job. Does this sound close or correct to what any of you pros would be? Now I also need to know how much profit should be put on top of the 6 gs ? ( profit towards my business and myself) 20, 30%? Any help would be greatly appreciated.

Btw -my hourly costs are $75hr for my s185 and $85 for my t190 ( That includes operator, and if the customer wants to be billed by the hour)

Re: Another Pricing Question

your costs to run that skid steer is $65 an hour? sounds mighty high to me. you'd have to bill that out at $90-100 an hour to make any money. personally, i'd never pay over $65 an hr for a skid steer sub. you can get a dozen of them locally for $50-55, but most of them have no clue as to what's happening....apparently our costs must be considerably less than yours.

That cost includes mine or my labourers hourly wage in it . Around here just skidsteers not ctl go for 75-80 an hour and ctls 85-100 (depending on size) I dont want to charge this job by the hour though.

Cherryhill, when you state "costs" in the above post do you really mean that you "charge" $75 and $85 per hour?

What your costs are, and what your rates are, is what I think is confusing us. Could you clarify?

Re: Another Pricing Question

Those rates are what I charge out to the customer if i was charging a job by the hour. My costs would be around ($45 for the s185, and $50 for the t190) and those prices are canadian.
