i'm only 55, but tired, burnt out, stressed out....thank GOD for my son!! but man, i'm tiring of this business. am i the only one in my age bracket that feels this way? we all know that nick is older than i am.

Thanks for that reminder youngster. I am 55 + 3/4. I'm tired, burnt out and stressed. I realized this more when I went to the lunch with the other guys from CT. So there's 2 of us.

I am 48 today, and I am tired, burned out, stressed out, and beat down. I have a pile of bills to send, 2 checks overdue on work done, and my son thinks I have no patience! Actually, my son is picking it up well...and learning what it takes to make a business run....but I am still beat out!

I spent a few different times of my life driving cross country...trucking. It was stressful also....but strangely, a piece of cake....it is times like this I wish I had my wife's job....carrying a badge and dealing with convicts...and she wishes she could quit and work in construction.

what's scary, is we had a "wild" yr. 2 yrs ago...last year was, ......okay......but my phone is virtually silent for work this coming spring...nada, nothing. thank goodness we're getting snow, and i HATE snow removal to build up some bucks.

I hear ya!!. I'm only 42 and feelin' it too. The lack of work, no shortage of bills and all the other hassles that come with the territory are wearing me thin.

I've been thinking of getting my ED degree and becoming a biology teacher.

You know, that probably is what grinds me down the most. Even when business is good, there is always that fear about what is around the corner (at least for me).

I am a little younger than you, but when I stand around all day watching the heavy equiment operators on my jobs, I sure get tired, so I can only imagine how tired you guys are.

That is one reason why I like those fold up chairs.

i turned 47 last week. crazy thing is i guess i'm operating in reverse. had what would appear to be a great job. even a steady job in these economic times. and i was very stressed out, burned out and generally sick of it. heart attack at 44 made me decide it was time for a change. i couldn't be happier. i have done better than what i had hoped for in the first year. very nervous about the future but am hoping things will pick up with the spring and after the change of the guard. i remember some on here talking about how election years slow down a bit, winter generally won't be as busy either around here. i'm hoping the combination of the 2 are helping too slow things down. i guess the diffrence would be that this is all still new and i am learning everyday, still a challenge.

the question then becomes......my dad started this in 47....man, i'd love to perpetuate this...encourage my son. but it's a tough business, you all know that! he has a b.s. degree in const. management. it's trying in finding competent help, trying to keep ahead of all the office duties, finding work, geesus, you all know the list. many times i think i'd be best encouraging him to take his expertise elsewhere. he for all practical purposes...is running this, except my name is on all the paper....the DREADED paper for those of you like me that occasionally has to borrow money. too bad it isn't friday nite, i'd have myself a few cocktails

There's not to many businesses that aren't tough right now. What you never went through this before? If your son is smarter that you. Which in my opinion would be very hard to do, he'll be alright.

I think most self employeed people get burned out around the 25 year mark. Time for retirement for some of you.

I have a M.Ed. and can teach highschool, plus I am certified to teach a few trades in a tech school......the pay and the challenge is what keeps me going. Teaching can be a bear, for not much in return.
