892D LC John Deere

Has anyone owned an 892D LC. About a 1988 machine.

I was offered one at a great price. It is very clean and tight.

Don't ask me why I would want another John Deere. But its extra lift and reach might be real handy when we move into the next phase of the hill job.

Any suggestions on what to look for? from those who have owned or run one.

Why are you so against John Deere? We have had 6 or seven machines they have been all really good and they (John Deere)has excellent service.
If you don't like em don't buy it. I think you get a good one or a bad one just the luck of the draw.

Tim,

I'm not against them I'm just not used to them.

We've owned an Insley, a Case, two Cat's and 7 Akermans since 1976.

I'm used to Akermans, They just don't make them anymore.

I bet a lot faster than the ackermans I think I seen one of those once there are two insleys around here they are demo machines though, Cat makes a nice machine, 892 is a pretty big machine I know a 690 is a 200 class.
WE have had several deeres they have been really good to us. If the price is right always use a back up if you do not have work.

Moving it won't be a problem Nick? I know the 792 my buddy just bought came in at a hefty 68k, actual weight with a scale ticket.....of course, it makes a 690 seem small. All I have ever operated were JD excavators, and I like them.

Nick, do you really need it ?? Cost of moving would be alot. If anything needed to be repaired, it would cost alot. Can you afford to repair it, if needed ??

Well I'm giving it a lot of thought. We are in the country for CT so moving isn't as big a problem.

The big attracton is the lift capacity and reach with all the rock setting we do. I'd just like to get in it and run it for a day to see how clumsy it is or how responsive.

Re: 892D LC John Deere

I would only be interested in it if I could run it long enough to make sure it would do the job I want it to do. You know as well as anyone here you don't need to get stuck with something that you really don't need.
