Honda GX390 13hp

Hey all,
I'm pretty sure most of you have or have used in the past a Honda GX series engine to power your pressure washer. Currently, I have a new GX390 13hp unit.
Now, I haven't put it through too much use but almost every time I use it it will 'backfire' on shutdown and the odd time on start up. I spoke to the manufacturer of my pw'r today and he said that itss normal with the newer GX motors as due to certain emission regulations they are required to run very lean - hense the backfire.
Can anyone add to this? Now, apparently its only newer production motors that will do this...

Interesting that you post this.

I just used mine the other day for cleaning a driveway and it was doing the same thing !!!

Backfire on shutdown.

It didn't seem like a problem though.

Not even 25 hours on the machine yet.

Are these engines cooled via water or oil? How long after "working them" do you shut them down?
I know that on some engines it's recommended to allow the unit to cool for a bit before shutting it down.

You can usually adjust the carb to eliminate this problem and get quicker warm up times. It's either a fixed jet (not adjustable) or sometimes a brass plug (EPA) that can be removed to get to the screw to adjust it. If you can't adjust it try a new jet, you won't believe the difference whet the mixture is right.

try throttlin it down and sqeezing the trigger on start ups and shut downs. It makes it easier on the engine and the pump.

EXACTLY what needs to done ALWAYS.

Throttle it down and let run for 30 seconds. It is NEVER good to shut down ANY motor from a high RPM.

ALWAYS squeeze the handle on shut down.
