You have jobs or you cant travel I am so sick of the **** you boys tell me. Get it done. This is a hard job, I get it done 274,000 sr ft to date. Re: Good Ol 'what To Charge' Thread...
What some of you may not understand, is that you can't come up with an hourly rate for pressure washing business! If you wanted to be the boss with 2 guys underneath you doing all the work, and you were out going doing estimates and all the paperwork and marketing of your company - then after you added all your costs of doing business, factor in a 45 grand salary for yourself plus 15% cash flow/profit - and the fact that pressure washing is seasonal. By the time you did all the arithmetic - your hourly 'rate' per man would be close to $200/hr. That's what a lot of you guys don't understand - get away from the whole hourly rate mentality - sell the value of doing business with yourselves to the customer. I mean a customer who has vinyl siding - never has to worry about recurring 7-8 thousand dollar paintjobs every 5 years. Washing a home for $500 every other year is cheap in comparison. Yet guys get into the 'hourly' rate mentality and pretty soon house washes end up going for only $150.
Try running a legit business with insurance and a rig with 35g's worth of equipment to do all sorts of different washing with a $35/hourly rate. It's one thing if you have a commercial painting company with 15 employees with work booked out 8 months in the future competing with other big guys. Washing is an entirely different biz - where in order to book enough work, you have to be on the road so much doing estimates, you can't do the work yourself. And not to mention all the gas you burn. You can only wash for cheap if you are a handyman without insurance willing to do all sorts of different work - and a handsome network of referals - but god forbid you get hurt, you no longer can pull an income in. |

Re: Good Ol 'what To Charge' Thread...
These threads are so stupid. Why cant ypu just tell the man what you charge. I will I charge 25 per hour this includes operator plus 20 per hr each additional man. Materials are charged at 30 % markup minimum. Why should the customers not know the cost. Also why would you want to work for someone that doesn't expect you to make a profit. I have read these posts many times and have never responded. But some people need to get in touch with reality.

Re: Good Ol 'what To Charge' Thread...
ok fine. Since we're getting "honest here" I try to get 75 an hour for myself, a helper, the machine and materials used. That varies between jobs of course and what we're doing. I'm NOT a hack, and that's what I need to make to make ends meet. I might be new to this site and or to posting here, but not new to the industry. There have been times I've based the job on that estimate and made more or less.....Wash long enough and you'll find that out. I do all my own paint prep work, couldn't imagine it being hired out. I see guys in this business that make way way way more than that. That's great. Next year it will go up I'm sure. Getting people in my immediate area to even spend a couple hundred on a house wash is getting harder and harder.
