Zone Valve

I have a Honeywell zone valve V8043A1185 that looks faulty. I checked the voltage to the valve and can manually open it so it seems to work. I'm guessing that the motor or powerhead (I think it's called) is bad. Can I change this without draining the water or doing any soldering? Any help would be appreciated including where to buy the part in the Northeast if possible.

Thanks, Marc

Re: Zone Valve

The heat motor (powerhead) quarter-turn clicks off the valve body. No draining necessary. The heat motor has to be cool before it will release, however.

Google "Honeywell zone valve V8043A1185" I found a half dozen places that sell that valve. Or go to your local supply house with the valve number. They'll have it.

No, I'm sorry YOU feel this way because the site owner has said this is not a DIY site.

So if you want to deny reality... then be my guest but it makes me sad to see you do it...

Thanks to mdshunk, Paul B & tgeb for your support. I found the motor is bad and I'll replace it on my own. You other guys, well, nice to know you're there willing to help people. Hope you're never in this position.

Re: Zone Valve

the v8043 model has a seperate powerhead assemble that can be replaced without unsweating the pipes. the E model has 4 wires, 2 yellow, and two red. the F model has 5 terms. the previous comment about a heat motor is incorrect, those are for BG and taco models. 1 or 2 screws hold the powerhead onto the valve body. get the right head and replacement is a snap.

Re: Zone Valve

The OP added the valve mfgr and model after I posted. I (wrongly) assumed that it would be a Taco. That's what I mostly see.

Re: Zone Valve

I was just flowing form rules. I took it as you where a diy.I do HVAC and know how to use a hammer and nail.I dont go on sites asking how to build a wall.If I need a wall built a call a carpenter to do it.If you where a general contractor then you would have a hvac company that you use that could help you out so took it as a diy and as this is a open site any one could resd it and try to take it off and some of the honywell zones whould open the head to water. so turn you boiler on and get it real hot and hope it will not spray all over you and if it does then you will no when its not working when you get burnt. One last thing there is general contractor out there that dont know $h1t and would run to the other side of building if I saw them with a tool in there hand. Then I would call 911 to get them on there way because he will hurt him self or someone. So have a good day I was just following the SITE RULES

Nope sorry an 8043 has two screws that hold the motor and the motor can be replaced easily, if you pull the four corner screws to change the whole head you will open the water side up and be pretty unhappy if you didn't drain the loop first.

Re: Zone Valve

the motor itsself as well as the powerhead assembly can be changed. the better solution is the whole powerhead assembly. if the motor went the other parts could be next. cheap insurance that way. the whole powerhead can be removed with out entering the water side of the system. 2 screws hold it to the rest of the brass body. the 4 corner screws are not accessable with the assemble on, once its removed then there seen however further disassembly is not needed at that point. always follow safe work practices and ensure the boiler is off and cool, as an extra precaution one could depressurize the boiler to less than 8 psi w/o draining it. this job is too easy. hope this helps. oh....home depot and other supply houses have the zone valves as well as tissues for you other bit<hes crying about helping someone.
