Whole House Humidifier

Is there such a thing made that attaches to your furnace that will humidify the hot dry air blowing out of the furnace?

If so, what are your thought's on these units and about how much do they cost?

Aprilaire is (or was) one of the more popular whole house humidifiers. They work great and require a little maintenance, I have no idea what they cost anymore it's been years since I've installed any.

$130 to $350 on Amazon.

you can pick up a couple of different sized units from Lowes or HD-less than $200 for a unit sized for a 2000 sqft home.

Keep it clean, these things are breeding grounds at least the older units were. Late spring /fall at least! these problems may have been addressed but who knows. You may want to upgrade your filtration.Children are at higher risk.

Isn't there some sort of adjustemnt for the amount of water it puts in the air?
I'm about used to the dryness now, but my poor dog is almost hairless, well not quite, but he scratches way too much.

Yes, they have a control on them for that purpose. You can also get a freestanding humidifier at Sears, for instance, if you are a renter. That might work well for you.

I am just renting, but depending on how difficult it is to install I'll just yank it out when I leave. Are they a complex setup? or just a hole in the duct and a water line?

I haven't ckecked if there's floor drain, but the water heater is in the same closet, would that also require a drain by code?

For having it installed, my baby bro is a tin banger. He doesn't know much yet, but I imagine he could ask someone for a favor. Otherwise I can always find someone on the job site that'd do it for a few beers.

depending on the unit it would be mounted on the cold air return with a 6" bypass usually somewhere on the plenum. Then run your water line off the water htr line good luck pretty easy
