What To Clean Evap. With?
I've got a Lennox heating unit with the evap on top. When I bought the house the filter had an inch of dirt on it ( no joke I actually measured). I cleaned ever thing I could get to but I'm have a hard time figuring how to clean the evap. I looks like I would have to drain the rerigerant then open up the housing to do it. Any suggestions regarding how to and what to use to clean it would be awsome. I was thinking simple green.

Re: What To Clean Evap. With?
I am going to answer in general terms, as i do not know your exact configuration. Simple Green - NO! Great cleaner, wrong applicaton. In a typical coil installation, your air will be blowing up from the furnace through the bottom of the coil. Refrigerant removal is generally not necessary and must be recovered if removed. In either a cased or uncased coil, you should have a door or access panel. Once inside, you will find a panel covering the typical A shaped coil. If you are lucky, the removal of a few screws should get you in. Just in case you break something, you might wear safety glasses. Refrigerant released quickly will cause skin to fall off and eyes to quit working. back to the cleaner - Making sure that nothing falls down onto the heat exchanger, use a small paint brush or little vacuum. Don't bend over the fins, as they are fragile. There are cleaners made for coil cleaning, but I seldom use them indoors. Even the safe ones are still forms of acid. I would not want it in my furnace - dripping or in the air I am breathing. Usually a good cleaning as above is sufficient.

Re: What To Clean Evap. With?
The evaporator cleaners are not acid based , they are concentrated detergents , we spray them on condenser coils straight at least twice a year , when the evaporator sweats it keeps the coil clean ,I use evap pow'r by new calgon, but you will need a sprayer for that, new calgon makes an evaporator foam cleaner in an aresol can , that would be good for a residental aplication , I use the aresol on the government jobs we do because thats what they purchase, I would clean the coil like recomended then soak the coil
