I am going to answer in general terms, as i do not know your exact configuration. Simple Green - NO! Great cleaner, wrong applicaton. In a typical coil installation, your air will be blowing up from the furnace through the bottom of the coil. Refrigerant removal is generally not necessary and must be recovered if removed. In either a cased or uncased coil, you should have a door or access panel. Once inside, you will find a panel covering the typical A shaped coil. If you are lucky, the removal of a few screws should get you in. Just in case you break something, you might wear safety glasses. Refrigerant released quickly will cause skin to fall off and eyes to quit working. back to the cleaner - Making sure that nothing falls down onto the heat exchanger, use a small paint brush or little vacuum. Don't bend over the fins, as they are fragile. There are cleaners made for coil cleaning, but I seldom use them indoors. Even the safe ones are still forms of acid. I would not want it in my furnace - dripping or in the air I am breathing. Usually a good cleaning as above is sufficient.
