Unique Installation
i had a goodman unit installed a year ago. the inside unit is a 3 ton with a gas heater. the outside unit is a centurion and is a 2 1/2ton.
i was told that it would run more effeciently that way. well......... it does, my bill in the heat of summer in fla. august is no more than $193 and i have leaking wooden windows and no insulation on my exterior walls. i am just wondering of other opinions on this matter. and no i have had no problems with the unit or installation. |

Re: Unique Installation
Damn! I thought that a unique installation is where you have to take the sucker apart and reconfigure it.
I work marine and this is not unusual although we try to avoid it as much as possible. Chilled water units are always tinkertoys.

Re: Unique Installation
Manufacturers work their butts off to get these systems to work well and be energy efficient. They spend a lot on engineering and testing. They work hard to do this because efficiency costs money and the government demands it.
Now you're saying that some guy who has done no scientific testing, probably not an engineer, tells you mixing units will run more efficiently. Then you say you believed him. Did you ask what research he had done? You would likely have done better by matching the inside and outside units. |

Re: Unique Installation
I guess Joe is saying that the 3-ton indoor coil is being used with a 2-1/2 ton outdoor unit. That is, in fact, what Goodman recommends to get a higher SEER rating, a larger indoor coil. Many manufacturers achieve better final ratings by using larger indoor coils and especially so with a TEV. So there is nothing unusual about it and it works as tested.
