Thermostat Question

I have a question about t stats:
on a typical rheem heat pump in heating mode( the o/b -rv is energized)(y is energized)(White wire goes to aux and is jumped to E)
G has 24 voltsand R supplys all of these.
Now when it calls for defrost on a rheem does the board kill outdoor fan motor and break a contact in the (o/b terminal rv) and the aux heat is already going.
Is this right please advise.

Re: Thermostat Question

Hi NCSteve

I think I follow the question you have. The reversing valve should be energised in the cooling mode. When it goes into defrost it shifts the reversing valve, stalls the outdoor fan, and energises the resistance heat. I hope this is what you were asking for, your post wasnt real clear.

Good luck
Rusty

Re: Thermostat Question

RHEEM/Ruud Energizes in the heat mode. NOT COOLING. They are normally in the A/C mode un-energized. Carrier and most other brands work the other way. FYI
