Tappan Parts

Hi,
I was curious if someone could give me some hints on the best place to find parts for Tappan units.
We sold many of them around 6 years ago and later and now some are having problems. But now I am having trouble getting parts.
Don't get me wrong the local supply houses can come up with them but it is taking some time to get them.
Does anyone know if there is a after market pressure switch and or a flame sensor for a Tappan RG4A at least that is what I think the model is best as I can recall at this late hour.
Thanks in advance for the help.

Re: Tappan Parts

Well thanks for the reply not sure what you mean by Johnstone supply.
I know they are a HVAC parts house. We bought the Tappan units from Baker Supply as I recall.

Are you trying to say that Johnstones Supply would carry the parts as well?

Call the factory. They will direct you to the closest distributor.

Re: Tappan Parts

Thanks Richard I looked at the link and couldn't find a number for nothing. I did see some dealers but they are just contractors like I am so I am sure they wont prove to helpful. I guess Bakers is the only people that I can deal with in my area. We replaced all the control parts except the PC so that will be next in the morning.

Sure wish we would have had a way to test the PC first so that we could have not had to replace the other parts. They needed it anyway they were very rusty. And the unit is almost 6 years old.

As I recall the model is a R4GA

Re: Tappan Parts

I am a Frigidaire dealer and also install Gibson furnaces for a middle of the road line. Let me give you a little history on your Tappens. Nordyne Manufacturing in St Louis, I believe, is the parent company. They manufacture Frigidaire, and Tappen under the eight year warranty. Gibson and Westinghouse are under the five year warranty. Maytag I have been told is a ten year warranty furnace. What makes them unique, is that in my experience, they all have the same parts inside, given like equipment. My suggestion is that you look up some of the other lines in your area. The model numbers will usually cross with the exception of maybe the first letter in the model number. Actually, these units are very straightforward as far as troubleshooting and the current generation furnaces are as good as any out there. It's all in the installation. If you (or anyone elso out there) get in a bind, feel free to call me as I have hundreds of them in the service of my very happy customers. Let me know if this helps. (517) 694-4561. Larry

Re: Tappan Parts

Thanks Larry that does help.
My father went from selling the Tappan/Grandaire units to selling the Frasier Johnston hope I spelled that right. And now he is mostly selling GMC.
I actually heard that same thing from my father about all units having the same parts roughly. That is one point that he has used to sell most of his units. He tells the customers that parts made for a Trane or Lennox are made by the same people that made the parts for a GMC.

We did follow your suggestion pretty much even though I did not recieve this advice till my day was up.
We went by a local supplier that sold Frasier Johnston and got a pressure switch. We were luckily able to get a pressure switch from the local supply house that sells Tappan/Grandaire.
They didn't get the PC in till late so we are unfortunately going to have to drive that long drive to Laurens SC again to replace the PC.
