Tankless Hot Water Systems
We have a new construction in which the client would like a tankless hot water system to run domistic hot water and infloor heat. Has anybody out there used a tankless system and if so do you recommend using it in this situation. Thanks.

Re: Tankless Hot Water Systems
I would not reccomend using one appliance to do both jobs. I would bet that it would work great for the floor heat, but I never took on a project like that. I have installed a few tankless units, and the h/o's love them, however, there are some "drawbacks" that the end user should be aware of.
Call Rannai, and tell them your thoughts. They will steer you in the right direction. |

Re: Tankless Hot Water Systems
I have used a tankless system for both domestic, floor, and for a coil in an air handler. This is actually three applications. The floor heat does not use much. Once the floor is warm (you use it just to create a warm floor) then the air handler actually heats the house. This system also allows you to place an A/C system in as well. Heating costs here in Kelowna are around 120/month so far for the coldest months. The system has been in use for just over a year. The only problem was with training the owner that the floor heat should not be adjusted. Set it at 68 F and leave it. It makes the floor feel cosy in the basement and then the air heat part of the system does the rest. I used a Trinity high efficient system. AWESOME!!! This same system is going into my next house!! Should mention that the house was built using the TF System, ICF method. Used it right up to the trusses. Also going to use this on my next house.

Re: Tankless Hot Water Systems
Being an old boiler guy and past issues I would first make sure your state and local code don't require an "H" stamp. I am aware some states do and made people tear out products which did not have an "H" stamp. The "H" stamps says it is manufactured under heating appliance codes.

Re: Tankless Hot Water Systems
why not use a boiler with an indirect domestic tank? we've used takagi's tankless waterheaters for garage infloor systems
