Service Valves

Lost freon charge on unit. Removed service valve cap covers and closed service valves to do a vaccum test on lines and evaporator. vaccum slowly leak down. put pressure on lines and soap test connections. Valves were leaking alot at valve stems.Have read that caps are the primary seals. Is this true or do I need to replace the service valves or can they be rebuild . Should I look for leaks else where in unit.

Re: Service Valves

if the leak is coming from the schrader just change it...buy the tool and a new schrader valve and replace it

Re: Service Valves

hi the seal inside usually gets burnt due to excessive heat from brazing.u could try some oil on them ,then spin them in and out a few times and loctite the caps as well as changing schraders.kind of a mickey mouse fix.just finished a call, what i did was eliminate valves altogether and install service ports.little more time consuming but after 200 psi of nitro and 1/2 hr later i know it'll be a long time b4 i'm back ther ,,, good luck

Re: Service Valves

they sell a piece, i believe its called an L bend?? but you screw it over the existing service valve, and it has its own schrader port on it to use. just leave it on and use it as your new service port.
