hi hvac guys,

i did a service call on a commercial hotel pool this am.
burner woundnt light. pilot putting out good mV through ciruit, safety harness switches all closed. so i took a jumper wire jumped the circuit & burners lit. i sat w/ it for a while, controlled burner by toggle switch & t-stat no prob.

everything looked clean & tight.. i have done this dozens of times & never knew what caused this condition. just figured id ask today

honestly i'd tell ya if i knew ... i don't mess with the heaters (personally) --- just not confident in my knowledge of them & troubleshooting them

Might be what yer lookin for is Millivolt Loss. You should get around 400 mv across the generator, with the switch off find the combination (move first the positive lead then the negative of your multimeter to the third terminal) that gives the same numbers. When the heater is turned on the result on the meter reads the Millivolt loss. For good operation the number should be below 80 or there about depending on the manufacturer. Pool heaters are what I do, if you can give me any more info I might be able to do more
