Pellet Stove

Anyone here ever heard of tying a pellet stove in to a house's ducting to act as the primary furnace? I need to replace our oil furnace soon and I'm curious if this is ever done.

Yes, I did it at my cabin, when I am not there it uses the gas furnace set at 45 degrees, when we are there I switch to the corn burner.

Re: Pellet Stove

We instaled a St. Croix this year. It is working fairly well.
Problems-
Hopper doesnt hold as much as they said
Little harder to get used to than a regular pellet ( can burn a lot of pellets when its not set right, as well as a lot more cleaning)
Advantage.
Hooked right into the heat ducts
works very well unless temp drops below 20-30, at 0 to 15 degrees a great drop...I say advantage because I may just have to lay out new duct work(hope)

Cleaning is the one thing that I dont feel they stress enough. When temps drop below 30 it needs cleaned alot. If this is the only heat source that is a problem. Over all it has saved some money. Not counting the time it takes to go get the pellets and store them, load them , and clean it.
