Millivolt Stats

What happens when you use a T87 style stat on a millivolt system? I've seen them installed on millivolt systems before, and I always wondered how they managed to set the anticipator. Got any input on stats for thermopile systems?

Re: Millivolt Stats

MD, the T-87 is just the number for the style. You can buy the for different needs millivolt/24 volt , it's just a different suffix. T-87 ....

Re: Millivolt Stats

t-87 is a 24 volt stat{as u know].what will happen on a millivolt system is it will work for awhile then become intermittent.as the generator gradually loses millivolts and because everthing is in series the resistence from the anticipator will start to cause nuisance no heats.usually up and down on the stat will bring it on,with the customer scratching their heads.24 volt stat may be used with add on isolation relay controling primary control.

Re: Millivolt Stats

Hi Md

You know I have to through in my 2 cents. When using a 24 volt stat on a millivolt system (not reccomended). All you have to do is short the heat anticipator across the pins, this removes the heat anticipator out of the equasion most thermostats have this ability. But for accuracy sake I wouldn't waste my time, but in a pinch it can be done. As we all know when you through excessive resistance on a millivolt generator, we have continuous callback problem due to lack of reliable heat.

Good luck
Rusty
