Re: Lp Conversion
That's a big DEPENDS:
a. If there is a factory kit with stickers to do a factory change with factory parts in a complete changeover kit, which limits liability to factory recommendations which makes code, it might or might not give exactly the same btu's, depending on what they specify from their testing. b. If somebody takes all fire marshal and insurance liability upon himself by not following a factory-approved change, there is no telling what the person will do. Generally, as the heat exchanger is designed to transfer X amount of heat and the fan is set to cool that heat exchanger for X amount of heat, the new input will be planned to be about the same. |

Re: Lp Conversion
its easier to replace gas valve with lp valve and orfices this keeps the pressure adjustment correct.I assume you dont own a air gauge so this is easier

Re: Lp Conversion
Again it's a DEPENDS.
If the factory kit requires adjustment to a specific pressure value, adjustment might require a gas manometer. Some appliances use a single orifice change and retain lower pressures. As there is no indication here of make and model to change, no prediction can be made. If the requirement is to block the gas valve open, then the tank regulator is adjusted. |

Re: Lp Conversion
Be very very CAREFUL when you do any gas line adjustment that is not manufactured-approved & code compliance INSIDE the house/premise. It is just not the technical aspects of being able to do it or not, but it is SAFETY concern & fire law. The Fire Marshall can cite you a criminal charge/penalty if the house get burned or exploded later in future & they track down who did it (even by customer's accidents of fire cause)

Re: Lp Conversion
Thanks for that heads up clearly written to the first point to be considered. Though the question is about the technical aspect of the changeover, there's a need to tell the precautions before hand.
When your friend says he wants to borrow your gun you first check out why and whether he really knows the 'common sense' meaning of the codes and laws. His buddy telling him how to pull the trigger isn't the only consideration. |

Re: Lp Conversion
Are you seriuos... what about the cost differance between a converstion kit and a gas valve. I for one would use the convertion kit like your suppose to and if you dont have a gas manometer then you shouldnt be touching any gas valve......Some Mfg. may sell equipment all ready convertied for you.

Re: Lp ConversionQuote:
Manometer, is that what he meant by air guage... here I thought he had a flat on the truck or something. I agree with the conversion kit, only way to go.
