Lose Of Heat Through Duct Work
How can one stop the lose of heat through your heat ducts?
I would like to make my Heat Ducts more effect but would like to know how one can do it? |

1st. If the ducts are within the heated envelope of the building, loss is a non-issue.
So, assuming the ducts are in an unconditioned space 1st, stop leaks. paint all the joints with the duct seal goop. Seal them really well. 2nd, insulate the ducts well. Standard duct wrap is about 1" of glass. Give them a lot more. |

I agree you need to plug all the air leaks with duct sealant but I would use the new type bubble wrap to insulate them rather than dealing with fiberglass. I have also seen a few jobs this past year where the ducts were wrapped with styrofoam panels.
