ICC rule question

Have been a hvac contractor for sometime and have never heard of this one.. I just completed a small job in Texas at some warehouses where we installed 10 gas shop hanging heaters in storage areas. I have installed your basic bi-metal heat only T-stats for these units. Now here is the question The city inspector says I must have digital (programmable) stats on these units to be legal. He says it is in the ICC book from 2003.. under some energy efficiency rule.. Funny I have never heard of this until now.. Has anyone ever heard of this? Thanks for replies

I never heard of this either, but upon googling something, I found this:
http://todaysfacilitymanager.com/fac...log/labels/icc. It states that what your inspector mentioned. I believe the meeting, or decision was made in October of '08.

Afterall, part of the inspectors job is to be on top of all code changes and discussion. They have to do a bit of extra schooling and the topics are most likely issues on well, codes x, y, and c.

Did he tag you on it? or did he just give a warning?

As far as I know the only thing needed for a green tag on the building are brass ID plates for the meters designating each suite..The general contractor just said he had mentioned it several times. I asked the inspector myself about it and he is the one who said ICC 2003. But I have yet to find anything on this other than what you posted the link to.. Thanks for posting, That is some good info to keep up with.

It doesn't say they have to be digital.

But, they most be programable/set back thermostats(which is probably imposible to find in a non digital thermostat).

Its in the IECC. (International Energy Conservation Code)
All commercial falls under the set back/programable thermostat requirement.
