Congtratulations... when I took that twenty-hour monster, there were a LOT of unhappy faces afterwards.

PLEASE give me some advice... WHY did you need to have the license? WHO told you that you had to be licensed? I'm only asking because my boss sent me to take the test and uses my license, and I can't figure out why he "needs it"... also, I have not gotten a raise since I've started qualifying him, and I would like to really know what I'm worth.

I have 21 years in this trade--12 in the field and 9 in design/draft--and feel that I am exceptionally under-paid. Please help this veteran and single father of two craft a better life for my kids... I am barely getting by while my company makes millions.

ALSO... if you can find someone that will pay me for what I THINK I'm worth (over $100K) I'll HAND you my first months pay in cash.

Thank you very much,

GF

He used you to be his qualifing party so he can take on more work. I work full time for a fast food chain im the maintance/hvac/electrician. I do work on the side for myself i was presented big jobs like to install units in 60 homes in this new subdivison. I couldnt cause it was more than 50,000.00! if i would have gotten that job i could have shoved my job on the side and provided a better life for my kids as well so i formed a llc and took the steps to get my license. now i can bid on these jobs and get them. Im insured like everybody else im qualified so they cant tell me nothing but yes or no, they cant tell me you need a license.I dont really know what things are like in florida, but thats my story

It's great that you are insured, licensed and all. However, it doesn't mean your life will be better for your family. Now you have more opportunities to make money, but if jobs don't go well, things can be rough on both you and the family. I am not hating, just stating that be careful with what you wish for, because it may come true.

60 RNC homes won't make you much money.

Wait till you see how much uncle sam gets of what you think is profit.

Hey you guys don't be so hard on the new guy. Listen buddy, at first you will have to bid jobs a little cheaper to get them, but once you build up your rep, you can charge more. Just Remember "always do what you say you will" And yes this line of work can and will afford a great life style, It's all about the way you run your business. This is why some Contractors are more successful than others. There are A lot of Contractors in there 40's and 50's that still do not run there company as profitable as they could. I'm 26 and I cleared 40k my first year and a lil over 60k my sec yr on my own. That was all service. I am getting my mechanical in a month if all goes well. Good Luck man. Just remember don't try to become that million dollar company overnight. Take baby steps as both my Grandfather and Father whom are both retired GC"s tell me. keep your faith in GOD and you will do well.

Got the license ? Good. Now you can do jobs with out pulling permits like the rest of us

And remember to get on the good side of the inspector. Compliment him with stuff like, "Inspectors are tradesmen who failed in business".
