Hydronic System Stop Leak

A friend of mine was telling me about a substance you can add to a radiator system to seal leaks. He says he don't know much about it but it will seal leaks in fittings and radiators themselves. Anyone ever heard of this?

Re: Hydronic System Stop Leak

All auto parts stores carry one brand or another of "stop leak" in the radiators...but I would only use it as a temporary fix...

Yes I know of them but I was thinking it was something made for home heating systems. I really have no idea.

Re: Hydronic System Stop Leak

The hydronic industry has their own products that are designed for heating system. Any distributorship and big box store has them.
With that said I would NEVER use them. They coat the boiler, piping and radiation. It will slow down the transfer of heat and when the boiler gets changed out the stuff is still in there. You cannot flush it out. You will need to use system cleaners usually more than once to get it out.
