Hvac Help

Hello all.... last year I replaced the fan motor and capacitor in my central air conditioner unit. It worked fine for most of last season. At the end of the season the fan motor could not start without a small push of the fan blade. Do I need to replace the capacitor again? Is there another problem I am misssing? Any help is much appreciated. Thanks.

Re: Hvac Help

Did you replace it with the same motor or a 1 motor fits many type? Cap should last longer than a year unless sized wrong.

I am pretty sure they where correctly sized......I physically brought the capacitor and the motor into the supply house (grainger) to get the proper replacement. Should I just replace the capacitor again? The unit runs fine once I give the fan blade a little push.

Re: Hvac Help

You can ohm out the start windings for grins but the cap should not be too expensive, replace it and see what happens.
Good luck

I've had better luck using 440 vac caps when replacing caps, but do no change mfd size. If it is 7.5 mfd you need to stay with 7.5. Also you might check the motor & make sure the right cap was the right size to begin with. Anyone agree or disagree

Re: Hvac Help

Replace the cap again, it could of been a weak cap. Check the amps on the fan motor after you replace the cap. Damage could of already been done to the motor. Hopfully, you won't be replacing it too.
