Do yourself a favor and spend the bulk of your time finding a company who does quality installations and provides quality services.
Brand quality makes little difference if it is not installed correctly.

Gibson is a Nordyne product.
Carrier is obviously a great product.
Trane is OK.

Of those 3, I would choose Carrier for my home.

Of those three I would only install Trane, however for residential RUUD/RHEEM can't be beat in my opinion.

I am sorry to disagree with "carrier is obviously a great product" statement but in my experience Carrier is over rated, over priced, and under engineered. (Just my opinion. Ford, Chevy anyone ??)

No matter what machine you choose it will only work the way it is supposed to if it is installed correctly, and then maintained properly.

I just had a "Bryant" dealer install a complete replacement of a heating and AC system and I am satisfied with its operation. I think you may do better with a quality installation by a certified dealer of the product name rather then with someone who has access to a few brands without certification from the factory. If something goes wrong, the factory warranty won't be challanged if the equipment is installed by a factory certified technician.

Re: Hvac Brands That Are The Best

OK this is just a contractors and consumers choice. Some will tell you Carrier, some will tell you Goodman and some Lennox, some Trane and much more.

Check out the consumer reports. These are given by real customers. I can tell you as a contractor I never put in Carrier (the joke is we carry them in and five years later we carry them out). Goodman is also referred to as GoodJunk. Lennox is very expensive to repair in some places. My personal preferances are Trane (American Standard) and Tappan (Intertherm) on least repair prone. Rheem is an alright unit but here it is hard to deal with warranty issues on them. Some contractors like all of these units. It does have a lot to do with the installation and set up but my preferance goes into mechanical choice too.

Tappan is a Nordyne brand along with Maytag,Westinghouse,Frigidaire,Kelvinator,Gibson,G randaire,Philco,Miller and Intertherm. And speaking of Nordyne, their 23 SEER iq drive system gets my vote for best equipment. The technology in this thing is MILES ahead of any other manufacturar in the game.

Re: Hvac Brands That Are The Best

Have had Goodman installed a lot recently with no problems. American Standard I would also recommend.

I also agree that Carrier is overrated--a lot of the builder grade equipment being installed in my area is Carrier.

On the high end equipment, most everyone's stuff is good. IMHO, I believe the installation and system design is just as important, if not more, than whose equipment you use.

There are a lot of differences from company to company on how systems are put together. Be sure you do your homework and understand the corners that can be cut on the install side so you don't get stuck with a bad system that no amount of new equipment will ever fix.

Do you install a lot of this equipment? Is the middle of the line stuff pretty good as well? Haven't seen any of those lines in my area in years but, I had used the Westinghouse equipment and never had any out of the ordinary problems.

When I hear Coleman, I think of trailers. I see them mostly in trailers.

Yeah, counterflows in propane or oil. We used to use there condensers and heat pumps due to the price but lately we have picked up Concorde, a new line to the area.
