It is as secure as a person can make for himself as a beginning worker to pass through engineering and supervision as far as you can go. You have a choice of work environments as an employee or a business. The field is so broad that there is room to pick whatever you prefer. The trade will end when people no longer need to cool,, heat, or move air.

A job with a union shop would be the best way to go if possible, there are a lot of negative things said about union's but their training is way up on the scale, failing that it will be as a helper in an open shop and night school.

The good thing about HVAC is that there are many avenues of the trade to explore and the trade will stay strong as long as there are people on the planet.

Make sure he looks into every possiblity before he takes a job.

Good luck to him.

been doing Commercial for 30 years and it is unlimited to the oppurtunities and yearly salaries.there is a lot of competition within companies as to who knows what all the companies have their strong points some are terrible to there people most value a hard working and eager tech.he will need to do a good 10 years learning all he has a chance to be around...10 years in step back and then descide where to apply that training and *ATTITUDE he will develope...*"I can fix anything" tell him knowing how to do breakdowns and troubleshooting is where the big money is,with less physical and more brain work it's those guys that companies depend on in the heat of the summer...unlimited OT$$$$$$$
