Having New Unit A/C Heat/Air Installed
THe question i have is that the house we live in now had heat by gas and the A/C was electric. Of cource all one unit. We had them disconnect the gas so we want to convert to al electric. At the present time it is in the hallway closet, the old unit that is. Now the question is that the unit I want to have put in I was wandering if it can be put into the attic area. Which is of cource a low 4x12 pitch roof trusses. And the Garage is converted to a bedroom so really dont want to have it in there. I figured it would be better to have it central located. Also I want all new ducts becasue these are all old. And with all the remoldeing I am doing like converting small bedroo to closet and taking out walls between two rooms and making one room. Anyhow what is the best way to go.

An overhead system is pretty standard as long as you have enough room for duct work, that depends on the truss layout. Why would you want to go from gas to electric? That can be a costly choice.

Re: Having New Unit A/C Heat/Air Installed
Generally gas is cheaper, Maybe someone in your area could also give you some input. As far as all the changes, you are going the right direction with the unit in the attic and new ductwork. Remember that installation is the key factor on a system, not the units themself, ofcourse the units are important, but not as important as the installation. As far as attic, measure center (highest point) 4/12 only gives us the pitch of the roof. Generally speaking it would not be a problem.

I would think gas would be cheaper to run than electric in Texas (the fossil fuel capitol of the US).
