Handyman

I ran across a problem with the Rheem heat pump unit. At times the fan in the outdoor unit is not running and the heat in the house would run and doesn't shut off as it should when set on auto. I then have to hit the high pressure control reset button located on the outdoor unit to get the fan running and the heat would then shut off to the set temperature. I have to hit this high pressure control button atleast once a day to get the system to work properly. The filter is changed regularly. Please help.

Re: Handyman

I would probably bulldoze the house, and start over...just to be safe.

Or....call an HVAC contractor.

Re: Handyman

You have a refrigerant license? Cause you have freon temp pressure issues. And you have no idea that the compressor is off when the head pressure control trips?

Re: Handyman

I think he is saying that the heat pump compressor wouldn't run when the pressure tripped the limit. It would be normal then for the system indoor blower to run all the time until he could get heat from the first stage to satisfy the thermostat.

It is normal procedure for the heat pump to work that way; but it isn't normal for the pressure to rise high enough to trip without some mistakes or a problem. So call for someone who knows how to charge and fix the unit. It isn't for someone without gauges or knowledge:
