Re: Goodman Gas Furnace

You get what you pay for, I'd never put one in my house.

Re: Goodman Gas Furnace

You will get a lot of guys tell you they are junk, but I've put them in a number of places (rentals I either own or do maintenance work on) and I have'nt had any more problems with them (knocking on wood right now) then any other furnace. In fact, when I remodeled my own house about 8 years ago, money was a bit tight so I went with 2 goodman furnaces (one for the upstairs and one for the downstairs) instead of a more expensive name brand and I've had very few problems out of either one. Nothing major at any rate.

The biggest thing I would say is whatever brand furnace you get, (I'm assuming you are asking for your own place perhaps?) get one that there is a supply house nearby for parts. I don't care what brand you get, you'll eventually need parts (or your service tech will need parts) and there is nothing more frustrating than knowing what the problem is but having trouble locating a supplier to get the right part. If I were you, I'd have a spare hot surface ignitor handy from the get go. Those will die on you at the most inconvienient times and they only take a few minutes to swap out if you have the part handy.

The other thing is the installation. Make sure it's right. If you don't get the proper return air etc etc you are asking for trouble regardless of brand name.

Ditto what trptman says. I've had the same experience and in fact I have an ignitor on hand after replacing one. I think I've had 7 of them put in over the years and no big problems. And they've got to be common almost everywhere.
