Geothermal Feedback

I am renovating my family's 1900 farmhouse (on the side, when not busy with the drywall company)
Looking into installing a geothermal closed loop heating system.
Any feedback on this type of heating system? The property is in Upstate (Fingerlakes Region) of New York.
Thanks.....

Re: Geothermal Feedback

geothermal is the way to go if you can afford the cost of install. we install the here in arkansas we have systems that have been in for 15 yrs and still running without problems. your best bet is to contact waterfurnace or climatemaster directley then they can put you in touch with a local dealer for their product. as far as im concerned closed loop is the only way to go the old open well systems were very problematic.

Climatemaster is good but not cheap and lead time can be bad, take a look at Florida Heat Pump www.fhp-mfg.com, installed many with no problems

Water furnace is good, but I would have a water sample tested and see if you need to filter for any problems in it.

They love their rep ,John and the product. Will soon receive an $800,000
sonic drill to their fleet.
Big john , on the pond loop isn't that a closed system with chemical in it?
I'm not in this Buss. but I believe It's what is the norm.

Re: Geothermal Feedback

Driftwood, yes system we are designing will be a closed loop, mechanical guys are planning to use methanol instead of glycol, we plan to sink coils of tubing in a spring fed pond near building site, then we bore two 3" lines to building, we will being going up a 100' rise, the plan is to horizontal bore under trees so we won't disturb area.We plan to add a redundant heat system, boiler with radiant as a back up heat source and mechanical guys believe it will heat potable water more efficiently.

Water chemistry won't matter with a closed loop.
