Furnace Vent

I have an oil fired hot air furnace in my house. The problem is there is a center chimney that reall f's up the living room. Adding a side wall chimney doesn't seem to be an option.
I have seen zero clearence furnace vents. I think thats what they're called(just a vent sticking out of the wall). Can any furnace be converted to this system? Or just gas fired?

Re: Furnace Vent

You can put a power vent kit on your oil furnace to sidewall vent it. While it's not a common thing to do, it is sometimes done as a cheaper alternative to a failed chimney. You need to re-do the Bacharrach after you install a power venter on your oil burner.

Re: Furnace Vent

You have to read your appliance specs to see if it can be converted to a fan assisted direct vent. If you have a center chimney I guess your equipment will also need to have a long connector to reach the side wall. There are limits to L vents and connector lengths as well as clearance on those ducts. Also there are strict rules about terminating the exterior wall. This oil furnace smell bad and leave residue anywhere within six ft of the ground.

Re: Furnace Vent

is there natural gas available in the area and by the way, you might even be doing your customer a favor by suggesting electric strip heat in the current oil pricing atmosphere.

I'm Not sure about gas lines. Can the oil burner be converted to gas? Is this expensive? Its not a customer house, its mine!
