Fire Dampers

Hello All,

I am doing a light commercial renovation for a friend, Which happens to be my first foray into commercial. My issue is that there are apartments above the location and the fire code is stringent.. I wanted to know if and where i would need to install fire dampers in the HVAC system duct work.. Gone to inspector he says to go to architect.. gone to architect and he says go to HVAC guy but.. i have none i am just extending ducts and trying to save some money for her. And inspector wants it to come from architects mouth per se. Architect is doing this pro-bono as am i .. so just trying to get some answers..
any help is appreciated
Thanks in advace
Steve

Re: Fire Dampers

I suspect the inspector wants a set of "Stamped" plans for your commercial work...Especially since residential apartments are involved. He needs the stamp to protect his butt.

Re: Fire Dampers

Anywhere you pass through a fire rated wall or between 2 different "fire areas". Such as shaft walls or corridors. A fire cannot be allowed to spread from one apartment to another, floor to floor or common area to apartment.
