Fan Switch/relay
OK, I have a solid fuel furnace, and last night after I had a roaring beauty of a fire, when the fan finally kicked on, it was not running full speed. I noticed it because I began to smell fumes(hot metal from the ducts and melting insulation) throughout the house.
I put out the fire. the furnace got extremely hot. the two controls are mounted in boxes on the rear of the furnace and a couple plastic wire nuts melted. There is a Honeywell fan control that has the main power connection and connection from the wall thermostat and a Honeywell fan limit switch. Now, the fan seems to run fine, but runs continuosly until I remove electrical power. Also, with the thermostat turned down and the fan limit switch disconnected, when I do apply power, you can hear the relay click on for the fan immediately. Do I need a new fan control? Limit switch? or both? How can I test them? |
