Duct Cleaning, have some questions

Hi,

Looking for some prof. insight as to what I should be looking for in contractor to come in and clean my duct systems in my home. Bi-level, @ 2200sq/f, single unit with one main supply (to about 20 vents) and about 4 returns. I get those coupons for "Whole house cleaning" anywhere from 44.95 to 199.95, then the returns are extra and do I want the sanitizer, etc. What should I be asking, how can I ensure I am getting what I pay for, whats a job like this usually cost? Anything else I am missing, please let me know and thanks for your help.

Do you have dust blowing out of your supplies.

If so. How did it get into your duct system.

How will cleaning the ducts stop that dirt from getting back in.

PS: There is no proof that cleaning ducts helps improve sysgtem performance.

So if your getting them cleaned. it should be because your going to have a better air filter installed to stop dust and dirt from being blow around.

Look for a NADCA approved duct cleaner. I used to sub out to a couple of different duct cleaners in town. They both did a good job. I hooked up with our only NADCA cleaner in town. I will never go back even though he is 15- 20% more on each job. He is more thorough than I have ever seen and he documents all of his cleaning. He also realizes that if the furnace filter does not seal properly, then his job is not done. Definitely check these guys out. I was impressed.

Just read beenthere's post. The guy I use will call in a service company if coils or blowers need cleaning. I have also seen him walk away from a job where the duct really didn't need cleaning. As with just about anything else, find someone you trust and make them prove what has been done.
