Re: In Duct Air Purifiers
I recommend April Air or Air Bear. Really changing your filters every 30 days works just as good. I do not recommend humidifiers due to the moisure and it can cause mold.

Re: In Duct Air Purifiers
Electronic air cleaners or electronic precipitators clean the air using an electric charge. They do a great job and make the air "smell fresh" like after an electrical storm. The only problem is they produce small amounts of ozone gas, a lung irritant. People with lung problems should not use them.

Re: In Duct Air Purifiers
Just saw your thread and am offering my two cents worth. Entry level filtration is with a 1.00 filter from your hardware. It would be 1" thick and offers you no real protection. It is there to keep the big stuff out of the furnace. A pleated filter 1" thick is popular, but in the long run, it will ruin your furnace from overheating if it is not changed regularly. The next phase is to install a Trion or Aprilaire (Spaceguard) type filter which filters down into the 1 micron range. These have a larger media area and usually last 6-12 months. These will filter out typical household dust and pollens in the summer. Now lets take this a stage higher. My highly allergic clients get a Sanuvox R3500X light in their return air duct. Couple it with a fan circulating on low speed and I have seen the health benefits, by chronic sufferers. It's a one two punch. The light kills the bacteria and the media type filter traps it. It seems to work best with a furnace like the Rudd modulating, which has a low consumption of electricity when the blower is running a lot. Remember that this has to be running for any system connected to the furnace to work. There's really a lot more to this system, so contact me if you need to know more.
