Dryer Venting

Hi guys, this is in my own home, but I was hoping someone wouldn't mind giving me a quick answer.

I just moved into my new house recently, up until now I have been venting my dryer with a stocking.
I have a vent fitting cut into my rim board. My question is this,
I plan to run flexible ducting (4") about 8' up and about 4-5 ' horizontal.
The ducting will probably end up being 12' or so?

Is this okay? Probably an easy question but I'm a framer so I'm clueless about this.

Thanks

Re: Dryer Venting

The piping needs to be smooth and shouldnt have any screws. These things collect lint and cause fire. If the manufacturer gives a maximum distance of pipe then use it if it sends you to the building code then use that. We run on IRC, 25 ft is the maxium distance allowed. For every 90 degree elbow the length gets reduce by 5ft, every 45 degree elbow reduces 2 1/2 ft. So a 25 ft run with 2 90's limits you to 15 ft. The first elbow coming out of the dryer itself does not need to be included.

Re: Dryer Venting

As Tom indicated, you need to run the line in hard pipe. A short piece of flex pipe off the dryer is ok, but the run should not be done with flex.
