dryer vent to a chimney in the basement
Is it a bad idea to vent to a chimney where water heater and furnace is venting? The flex duct is located lower than the holes for water heater and furnace. I didn't find any code/regulation. Thanks a bunch!

Jerry - riggs? Gerryrigged? Juryrigged?
Filling a intentionally filling a flue with flammable material?
No, I see no problem there.

 WOW
Are you serious about this question? Consider the possible outcome of a dryer vent hooked up to the same flue as a gas burning appliance man! Ever heard of carbon monoxide poisoning? Ever think about how much flamable dust comes out of a dryer?
I've seen some pretty crazy stuff but this would be a first for me and I've performed inspections and or worked on 1000's of homes over the years.
There is no need for me to try and find this in a code book. Common sense will do!

At the very least you may keep the other appliances from venting while the dryer is on. They may then vent into the basement

Are you f**king serious? I guess they don't have licenses and inspections in your area. Real bad idea, and against every building code ever written.

Lint comes out of the vent.
Lint gets caught on anything possible
Lint is EXPLOSIVE.
I know someone who just found out the flammability of lint - could have easily lost his house for Christmas.
Not only is this against all codes, it's freaking DANGEROUS and lacks common sense.
Your furnace and water heater are separate units and vent into the same flue ??????

That part is very common in this part of the world.
The other part is pretty other-worldly

To satisfy codes and insurance requirements, the appliance must be installed as directed in the manufacturer's instructions; although local code officials can supercede such instructions. Dryer manufacturers usually tell installers not to connect dryers to chimneys as in the manual referenced below. The instructions usually say to vent outdoors.

Because installers can 'get away' with not having enforcement in their areas, has no bearing on what will be permitted in another area. You will do well to follow the instructions that come in the box with yours appliance.

Guys, I saw this setup in a house and got suspicious that why I posted the question. Please don't kill the messenger!
I sure will tell them about the danger. I felt dryer was supposed to have its own dedicated vent. Maybe a call to the code inspector will clarify.
