Combining Thermostats

I posted this in the DIY Board a few days ago and have not gotten any response. Maybe I can get some ideas here. I have 2 heat sources in my house and I would like to combine the thermostats. I have an oil furnace that is controlled with a White Rodgers Type 1F6-444 thermostat. The second heat source is an outside wood furnace with a heat exchanger in the oil furnace duct. This is controlled by a White Rodgers 1E30-910 thermostat. This thermostat controls the fan on the oil furnace to supply heat. This thermostat has 2 leads running to the "G and RC" terminals on the oil furnace thermostat. The oil furnace thermostat is about 2 inches above the other. I keep the oil furnace set about 8 or 10 degrees below the other. I would like to combine these controls into 1. I am wondering if
there is a thermostat that I could install that would control the fan and then if my fire goes out and the water temp dropped, it would kick the oil heat on. If I got a heat pump thermostat, would I be able to hook it up so that the thermostat would treat the oil burner as "emergency heat"?

Re: Combining Thermostats

I havent' done this, but it sounds as if it would work. I think by using the 'emergency heat' output of a heatpump thermostat it should turn the fan on automatically so everything should work well. some of the documentation I've read is that the Emerg heat comes on when temp is 2 degrees or more below set point -if you leave the front door open for 20 seconds with on a cold windy day that may be enough to trip the emergency heat (depending on location of thermostat).

good luck-let us know if it works.
