Chase For Water Heaters?

I am GCing a total rehab on a 6 family thats being turned into 6 condos. This is the second time we are using this Plumber. The first job no Hvac was installed.

He is telling me that he is not putting in the duct work for the water heaters because since there is Hvac being installed they are responsible for all the duct work.

Is this right or did he just underbid the job & looking to save his butt.

it is a non union job & in NJ

I am also going to post this in the plumbing forum to see their response.

thanks frank

I'm afraid your plumber is right. Plumbers generally do not get into the duct business. HVAC installers are usually the ones to install the exhaust vents for gas water heaters.

What is the big deal it is just a vent duck for a water heater it is not a forced hot air system.I have been putting in my vent duct for gas and oil fired water heaters for 23 years.I just think he is not wanting to do the job for you.Just my thought. gl friend.
ps:no disrespect to the plumber

I was in the hot water boiler mode.It is only a 5 in exhaust pipe it takes about 20 min to install. And I do not see how he can be responsible for some one other mans duct work.I say pluck his duct and call another plumber.
