Central Gas Insert

I am doing a trade with an HVAC guy, trim work for a gas fireplace insert.
Insert will go in lower level to heat 22 X 16 family room. Raised hearth and 25' to top of chimney. Walls are insulated. Will use 2 flue pipe system.
The heat guy has a Central gas fireplace from a return.
My question is, I only want to do this once, so any recommendations for insert brand. I live in Minnesota. If I get this done, my wife and I can get away from our kids and have our own TV/ reading room.

Re: Central Gas Insert

You should consider a direct vent insert, since they use outside air and are efficient (80%+).

I will be having one installed in my townhouse in a few weeks, but have not selected a brand yet, but there are many good brands. I am a mile or two east of you.

Go to a place like Fireplace Hearth & Home (???? - completed name a blank now) on Cleveland Avenue (?), north of county road C. They have many different brands and models on display - it is a good place to go and learn.

Where you live, the the gas piping will probably have to be installed by a licensed person (plumbing, not just HVAC) or you could run into code and insurance coverage problems. North Oaks does not fool around and that is why people live there.

Re: Central Gas Insert

Yea, the 2 pipe up through the chimney is direct vent. HVAC guy has a contractors license and does my remodels. I could go to the fireplace store on Cleveland. I have an account at the tile shop right next door. He's trying to get me this Central because thats what his wholesaler supplies. Your right about North Oaks, they like the rules followed, and I like to stay out of trouble.
